Description
Bucephalandra is a genus of rheophytes from Borneo: plants that grow on rock in fast-flowing water. ‘Kedagang’ is one of the more distinctive varieties, with narrow, heavily rippled leaves that catch a metallic blue-green sheen under good light.
Why people collect them
Because they are slow, small and structurally interesting. A single rhizome becomes a dense cluster over a year without ever needing a trim. They are also the only common aquarium plant with that particular leaf texture.
Care
Attach to stone or wood exactly like Anubias — rhizome exposed, never buried. Low to medium light suits it best; under very high light the leaves stay smaller and darker. CO₂ improves colour but is not required. It is sensitive to sudden parameter swings, so plant it after the tank has cycled.
What you receive
A rhizome with four to eight leaves, grown emersed. Emersed leaves are rounder and glossier than submerged ones; the plant will push new, narrower leaves within a month of planting.
Specifications
Single rhizome, 3–6 cm. Slow grower. Not for uncycled tanks.
