Description
Black mountain stone reads almost as silhouette. Deep charcoal with a fine matte grain, it makes Monte Carlo or HC Cuba look electric by comparison, and it photographs beautifully without any editing.
Where it works
Best in two situations: a minimal iwagumi where the stone is the subject, and a dark-water or shadow-heavy nature aquarium. It is less forgiving than seiryu in busy layouts because it absorbs light — you need a strong LED to keep the foreground from going muddy.
Weight and stacking
This is the heaviest stone we stock. It stacks superbly without adhesive because the fracture faces are flat and grippy. Do not put it on bare glass: use a 1 cm layer of sand or a plastic egg-crate base under the main structure.
Specifications
Sold by weight. Near-black, matte, dense. Typical piece 8–22 cm. pH neutral. Because it is heavy, budget less weight than you would for dragon stone: 8–10 kg for a 60 cm tank.
