Description
Seiryu is a metamorphic rock with a fine, even grain and the white calcite veining that gives it that unmistakable mountain look. It is heavier and denser than dragon stone, which is exactly what you want for a tall vertical composition — it stays where you put it.
Working with it
Seiryu does not carve easily. Plan the layout around the pieces rather than trying to force them: lay them on a towel on the floor, photograph the arrangement from the front, then transfer. Because of the veining, direction matters — keep the veins running roughly parallel or the scape will look chaotic.
Water chemistry note
Seiryu contains calcium carbonate and will raise both KH and pH over time. In a hard-water shrimp tank that is often welcome. In a soft-water Amazon biotope it is the wrong stone. If you are keeping crystal shrimp or discus, choose dragon stone instead.
How much to order
Denser than dragon stone, so the same tank volume needs less weight: 10–12 kg for 60 cm, 18–20 kg for 90 cm.
Specifications
Sold by weight. Blue-grey with white veining. Typical piece 10–30 cm. Rinse before use; expect fine sediment for the first week.
