Description
Dragon stone (also sold as Ohko) is the most forgiving hardscape stone we stock. It is soft enough to carve and shape at home, light enough that a 20 cm piece weighs almost nothing, and its surface is full of the erosion channels that make a layout read as geology rather than decoration.
What “select grade” means here
We hand-sort every pallet into two piles. Select grade means the piece has at least one clean, dominant face, no fresh break across the front, and no chalky white veins that will read as damage under LED light. Roughly a third of what arrives makes this grade.
How much to order
For a 60 cm tank, budget 6–8 kg. For 90 cm, 12–15 kg. For 120 cm, 20–25 kg. Order slightly more than you think: the best layout usually emerges on the fourth or fifth re-stack, and you want spare pieces to choose from.
Before it goes in the tank
Rinse under a hose, not a scrubbing brush — you want the channels to stay sharp. Dragon stone does not significantly raise pH or hardness, but it will shed fine grey dust for the first few days. Run filter floss and rinse it daily for the first week.
Specifications
Sold by weight. Pieces range from roughly 8 cm to 25 cm on the long edge. Ships in a padded crate; expect a small amount of chipping at the edges, which is normal and rarely visible once planted.
